The 4 cylinder Perkins 1204 and 6 cylinder Perkins 1206 deliver 110 kW to 239 kW in machines applications such as telehandlers, loaders, excavators, tractors and forestry equipment. At Sleemans, we supply replacement Perkins 1200 Series engines and parts, matched to your serial number and shipped worldwide.
Perkins 1200 Series specifications
These are the current Stage V industrial engines Perkins lists in the 1200 Series. All are water-cooled, 4-stroke, direct injection engines with a 105 mm bore.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1204J-E44TA | 4 cylinder / 4.4 L | Turbocharged aftercooled | 110 kW @ 2200 rpm | 560 Nm @ 1400 rpm | 488 kg |
| 1204J-E44TTA | 4 cylinder / 4.4 L | Series turbocharged aftercooled | 150 kW @ 2200 rpm | 825 Nm @ 1400 rpm | 535 kg |
| 1206J-E70TA | 6 cylinder / 7.0 L | Turbocharged aftercooled | 151 kW @ 2200 rpm | 870 Nm @ 1400 rpm | 715 kg |
| 1206J-E70TTA | 6 / 7.0 L | Turbocharged aftercooled | 239 kW @ 2200 rpm | 1,282 Nm @ 1400 rpm | 752 kg |

Perkins 1204 and 1206 by emissions level
The 1200 Series has been built to several emissions standards over the years. The letter after the series number tells you which one:
| Build | Emissions standard | Example |
|---|---|---|
| E | EU Stage IIIB / US Tier 4 Interim | 1204E-E44TA (110.1 kW, 560 Nm) |
| F | EU Stage IV / US Tier 4 Final | 1204F-E44TA, 1206F-E70TTA |
| J | EU Stage V / US Tier 4 Final | 1204J-E44TA, 1206J-E70TTA |
| EA | China Nonroad Stage IV | 1204EA-E44TTA (129 kW), 1206EA-E70TTA (225 kW) |
Industrial engines of the same size but different builds can look very similar and still use different aftertreatment, sensors, software and parts. That is why we always work from the serial number.
What makes the 1200 Series different?
- Built for emissions: 1200 Series engines use electronic control and engine-mounted exhaust aftertreatment, including a diesel particulate filter on the latest builds. Perkins says it has more than a billion hours of experience with DPFs.
- Downsizing: the 1204J-E44TTA gives 150 kW and 825 Nm from 4.4 litres. Perkins says this lets machine builders replace larger engines and, depending on the machine, save up to 30% on installation costs without loss of performance.
- Fuel economy: Perkins says the 1204J’s fuel system and turbo cut fuel use by as much as 20%.
- Shared platform: The 1200 Series shares its base engine with the 1100 Series, which Perkins says makes moving between the two easier for machine builders.
Perkins 1200 Series power generation engines
The 1200 Series also powers generator sets. Perkins lists the 4.4 litre 1204F electric power engine at 114 to 125 kVA and the 7.1 litre 1206F at 169 to 250 kVA, for prime and standby power.
Where are Perkins 1200 engines used?
- Telehandlers, wheeled loaders and backhoe loaders
- Excavators and road construction machines
- Tractors, sprayers and other agricultural machinery
- Forestry machines and industrial equipment
- Generator sets for prime and standby power
How to identify your Perkins 1200 engine
The engine type and serial number are on the engine’s data plate. Because 1204 and 1206 builds differ in their aftertreatment, sensors and software, the full serial number is essential. Please send it exactly as written, with the make and model of your machine and a photo of the plate if you can.
Replacing a Perkins 1204 or 1206
- Like-for-like: the best option for electronic engines, because the ECM, wiring and aftertreatment are matched to the machine.
- Aftertreatment: on Stage IV and Stage V engines the DPF and other aftertreatment are part of the certified engine. Changes need care to stay compliant.
- Emissions rules: a replacement engine in an existing machine can follow different rules from a new machine. Tell us where the machine works and we will help you choose the right build.

Perkins 1200 Series FAQs
Is the Perkins 1204 Stage V?
The current 1204J builds are certified to EU Stage V and US Tier 4 Final. Older 1204E and 1204F builds meet Stage IIIB and Stage IV.
How much power does a Perkins 1206 have?
The 6-cylinder, 7 litre 1206J gives 151 kW in its TA version and 239 kW in its TTA version, both at 2200 rpm.
What is the difference between TA and TTA?
TA means turbocharged and aftercooled. TTA engines add a second turbocharger in series, which raises power and torque from the same size of engine.
Do you ship Perkins 1200 Series engines and parts overseas?
